As a network for the IoT/M2M era, LPWA networks are attracting attention as they can cover a wide area with low power consumption and low cost.
Shinko Shoji Co., Ltd. manufactures LoRaWAN™ compliant communication modules, a type of LPWA, in its own factory, which has been certified for construction design conformity with Japanese technical standards.
We have begun manufacturing and selling LoRaWAN™ compliant communications modules and expanding sales of solutions that utilize LoRaWAN™, and will begin providing samples from July.
IoT and M2M (Machine to Machine communication) involve equipping various devices with sensors and computers, connecting them to a network, and collecting and controlling information.
LoRaWAN is a wireless communication standard called LPWA (Low Power Wide Area Network), and is a next-generation IoT network that can cover a wide area with low power consumption and low cost.
LoRaWAN has already begun to be adopted, primarily in Europe, and demonstration experiments have also begun in Japan.
The features of LoRaWAN are as follows:
・By utilizing the characteristics of the 920MHz band, which is a sub-gigahertz band that does not require a license in Japan, the propagation distance is long, enabling long-distance communication of up to about 10km. (*)
-Low power consumption reduces the burden on power supply equipment.
・You can install base stations (gateways) in the areas you want to use and complement the mobile communication network.
- It is a global, open technical specification published by the standardization organization, the LoRa Alliance.
(*) Actual communication distance may vary depending on radio wave conditions, etc.
LoRaWAN is expected to be used in a wide range of applications, including agriculture, livestock farming, factories, disaster prevention, and smart meters, taking advantage of its characteristics of low power consumption and long-distance transmission to collect and utilize information using various sensors such as sound, light, pressure, temperature, and vibration.
Shinko Shoji Co., Ltd., together with Interpolation Inc. (*1) and NEMEUS (*2), a company with a proven track record in France, has obtained Japanese technical conformity certification (*3) for NEMEUS' LoRaWAN™ compliant communications module (development code: MM002-L-JP), and will develop a business through collaboration between Shinko Shoji, Interpolation and NEMEUS.
In the future, we plan to develop LoRa® related businesses targeting the IoT market, including remote monitoring for the maintenance of various devices and environmental sensing using various sensors. Furthermore, we plan to manufacture NEMEUS LoRa®/SIGFOX™ common modules for Europe and release them in Japan.
We plan to begin mass production of the MM002-L-JP from fiscal 2017 and expand our product lineup accordingly, aiming for annual sales of 1 billion yen.
