SII Semiconductor Corporation, a subsidiary of Seiko Instruments Inc. that manufactures and sells semiconductors, has developed the S-847x series of ultra-compact wireless power transfer control ICs that enable easy construction of compact wireless power transfer systems ideal for wearable devices and other devices, and has recently begun accepting orders.

A wireless power control IC is an IC that controls the transmission and reception of power in wireless power supply. Wireless power supply standards such as Qi and PMA incorporate various functions to enable complex processing, but the number of components is large, making system construction difficult.
The new "S-847x Series" products use a unique standard specialized for power transfer, allowing the use of general-purpose diodes, transistors, resistors, and other peripheral components. Because only a small number of components are used, it is easy to build a small wireless power transfer system. The ultra-small SNT-6A (1.8 x 1.57 x 0.5 mm) and SNT-8A (2.46 x 1.97 x 0.5 mm) packages are used, making it possible to significantly reduce the board area.

The "S-847x Series" includes three types of control ICs for power reception control, the "S-8471", "S-8472", and "S-8473", and the "S-8474" for power transmission control. The power transmission side can use a USB 5V power supply (S-8474). The power receiving side can receive 100mA at 5V (S-8471). There are also products with a lithium-ion secondary battery charging function (S-8472/8473). Each has a power transmission status display function (continuous operation mode/intermittent operation mode), a thermistor-based high temperature shutdown function, etc.
